The plastic is structural grade, and it is absolutely precipitation/rain proof when installed correctly. Seems indestructible. I added it to a small scale outdoor solar power system because having a 12-volt outlet to use with various automotive accessories is much more energy efficient than charging devices through a 120 volt AC inverter. (One less voltage transformer between the 12v battery and USB charger, and 12v to 120v AC is an expensive conversion energy wise to begin with...) So if you are running a 12v system of any kind (solar, RV) I'd recommend installing these anywhere you might want to use a charger because every 120v outlet you can avoid using will keep your battery fresh that much longer. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Top Quality Accessory Socket, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Blue Sea 1011 12V DC Socket (Automotive) I needed to install a 12volt socket on my motorcycle and chose the Blue Sea socket. There is a rubber ring you need to remove to open the case. I wired it backwards the first time but the positive goes to the branch with the LED light. Much higher quality than what I have seen before so overall very happy, just would have been nice to print a few comments about assembly on the packaging card. |
